Applies to: All students enrolled in accredited qualifications delivered by Lumify Learn (RTO 45994)
1. Purpose
This policy outlines the acceptable use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools by students undertaking accredited courses with Lumify Learn. It ensures that all training and assessment outcomes maintain authenticity, academic integrity, and compliance in line with the new Standards for RTOs 2025.
2. Scope
This policy applies to all accredited training products offered by Lumify Learn. It applies to all assessment activities and learning tasks where students are expected to demonstrate their own skills and knowledge.
3. Policy Statement
Students must submit authentic work that represents their own skills, knowledge, and competency.
The use of AI tools (such as ChatGPT, Grammarly, GitHub Copilot, etc.) to substantially complete assessments is prohibited, unless explicitly authorised in writing by a Lumify Learn trainer or assessor.
Limited, supportive use of AI (e.g., checking grammar, brainstorming) is permitted where:
It does not replace the student’s critical thinking, skills, or understanding.
Any AI-assisted content is properly acknowledged.
4. Acceptable Use of AI
Students may use AI tools for:
Checking spelling, grammar, or sentence structure.
Brainstorming ideas or gathering general research concepts.
Generating basic templates (if then customised by the student).
Improving document formatting and readability.
In all cases, students must retain ownership of the work and apply their own critical thinking and knowledge.
5. Unacceptable Use of AI
Students must not:
Submit assessments that have been generated wholly or substantially by AI tools.
Use AI to complete critical assessment tasks without trainer/assessor permission.
Present AI outputs (text, code, images, diagrams) as their own original work without acknowledgement.
Use AI to bypass skill development activities required by the course.
6. Disclosure Requirements
Where AI has been used (even for minor tasks), students must:
Clearly state the tool used and describe how it supported their work. Example:
"ChatGPT was used to brainstorm initial ideas. Final assessment content was developed independently."
Failure to disclose AI use when required may be treated as academic misconduct.
7. Academic Integrity and Misconduct
Breaches of this policy, including inappropriate use of AI, may result in:
Resubmission of the assessment.
Academic misconduct warnings.
Cancellation of course enrolment (for serious or repeated breaches).
All cases will be managed according to Lumify Learn’s Academic Integrity Policy and relevant student conduct procedures.
8. Support for Students
Lumify Learn is committed to helping students develop digital literacy and ethical use of AI tools. Students are encouraged to speak with their trainer, assessor, or student support team if unsure about acceptable AI use.
Guidance and workshops on responsible AI use may be provided as part of the student support offerings.
