1. Purpose
The intention of this policy is to inform the staff and students of Lumify Learn, that, while training standards may be fixed, how they are achieved does not have to be. Sometimes students will require special treatment in assessment (e.g. students with a physical disability).
2. Policy Statement
This Policy covers all of Lumify Learn’s training and assessment services across all campuses and all training/academic, student services, and governance staff members.
3. Definitions
The General Manager is responsible for ensuring this Policy and Procedure is implemented. The Compliance Coordinator is responsible for ensuring this Policy and Procedure is maintained and up to date in line with scheduled revisions. Managerial staff are responsible for ensuring their teams are up-to-date with this Policy and Procedure.
4. Policy Principles
In assessing whether an adjustment to the course of study or program in which the student is enrolled, or proposes to be enrolled, is reasonable, Lumify Learn will maintain the academic rigour and requirements of the course or program, and other requirements or components that are inherent in or essential to its nature.
Lumify Learn commit to applying reasonable adjustment which aims to simultaneously:
respect the student’s learning needs
defend academic integrity and
promote equity and consistency for all.
Lumify Learn applicants are assessed for their language, literacy and numeracy and other capabilities as part of Lumify Learns application and enrolment process. At the same time, applicants are requested to self-declare any disability and/or barrier that may adversely impact on their ability to learn in a fair and equitable manner.
4.1 Access and Equity Principles
All students are required to demonstrate their underpinning knowledge and comprehension of the units of competency that make up their training course. In the case of students with an identified barrier, the method of assessment will be pre-determined to best accommodate the student so that they will be able to easily work their way through the studies.
Lumify Learn provide equitable access to all required academic and non-academic support services, so that no student is disadvantaged regardless of their mode of study or location. All decisions pertaining to reasonable adjustment requests will comply with legislation, Rules of evidence and Principles of Assessment
